Mondays.....

Monday, November 4

The first Monday of the month is a real challenge for me.  The entire morning is Docent Meeting. A great group of volunteers who really love their role in the museum.  The entire morning is devoted to them and I do feel guilty when I don't stay for the entire time.  However I have lots of work to do.

We have leadership team at 1 pm and usually go until 2:30.  If I plan correctly, I grab a bite to eat in between meetings.  One hour - more or less - isn't a lot of time to read through emails, prepare anything needed for leadership, phone message returns, check in with staff, answer questions, etc.

And then after Leadership Team meeting I attempt to do everything else that needs to be done while answering questions from Kelley, Emily or anyone else.  Yikes....the day is done.

And what do I have to show up.  Not a whole lot.

November Blessings....
#10 - The joy of music - tonight was bell choir practice.  We are earnestly playing Christmas music.

#11 - My job - Thankful that I have meaningful work that is earning some money.

#12 - Night sky - The stars seem brighter tonight.  Don't know why....they just do.

Science Festival, AT&T Park, Saturday journeys

Saturdays....

At one time in my life, Saturdays brought a morning of sleeping late with out the alarm.
Later Saturdays were up early, go to soccer games, cross country meets, wrestling events, track meets, going to grad school, writing a paper, working on a project.  The day was packed full of being with family, helping the kids, grocery shopping, cleaning house, doing laundry.

My life has certainly changed over the years.  Saturdays do not have a regular pattern right now.  I'm balancing working at the museum on Saturday events, teaching a tech class on some Saturdays, and an occasional Saturday that is just for me.

So today...I stepped out of my comfort zone.

I drove the Lindsay Wildlife Museum van to AT&T Park loaded with two wonderful docents and several specimens.  We participated in a huge science festival - the Bay Area Science Festival.  From 11 to 4, we spoke to kids and adults about living with wildlife.  And then we packed it up and drove home.  A long day....a lot of people...out of my comfort zone...learning new skills.

November Blessings....
#4 - Job - I am thankful for a new job that is expanding my skill set.

#5 - Learning - I am thankful that I enjoy learning and that I have the opportunity to provide opportunities for others to learn.

#6 - Bay Area - This is a unique and beautiful to live.  The new Bay Bridge is amazing.

Sunday, November 3 - Blessings

Daylight Savings Time.....

Change your clocks...
Fall back - gain one hour
Spring ahead - lose one hour

In theory, daylight savings time is suppose to help all of us with having more daylight to work.  What really happens is that I lose sleep wondering what time is it really?  especially when you need to be somewhere on Sunday morning.

One thinks you have more time ....in reality you have less time.  After all you spend that "extra hour" hunting down all of the clocks in your world and change the time.

As I am writing this, the time is 6 o'clock and it is dark outside. Dark.
Tomorrow I will be awake way too early because it will take time to adjust my internal sleep clock.
I will appreciate the time change when I can enjoy the sunlight during the day.

November Blessings....
#7 - Ken - he ran a 5K race today in Tiburon all by himself.  He got up at 4, drove himself, ran, and returned home.

#8 - Bell Choir - an opportunity to be engaged in music at church.  I do enjoy playing, participating with a group of women, and being challenged to learn new skills.

#9 - Sunday - a day of rest, celebrating God's love

November Blessings

November - A month of counting my blessings.....

Obviously I have not been present on this blog.  Life has been busy with many, many changes.  Life is a roller coaster ride - especially for me.

Today is the first day of November.  It is "All Saints Day".  A day that no one really knows the significance.  It comes after All Hallowed Eve's Day.  For me I go immediately to images of Martin Luther, document nailed to the door, and the tune and words of "A Mighty Fortress is My God."

We are fast approaching the "joyous" holiday season of Thanksgiving and Christmas along with a change in weather.  I am not fond of the holiday season.  It seems to be just a time of spending money, reminding me of the many changes in my life, and of family spread afar.  We are surrounded by images of friends and family together laughing and having fun, presents, trips, food, consumption of material goods.  All seemingly without any concern of the cost in obtaining these items.

I just read that November and December are when depression rises.  I can truly agree with that statement.  The weather is turning colder.  The days are shorter.  There is less sunshine.  One can focus on depressing thoughts, feelings of being alone.  I could continue on with my list. So instead of going down that path......I will......

Today I will start to write again with the goal of counting my blessings for the month of November.  I am participating in the challenge of documenting three blessings a day for the month of November.  I think I can commit to 30 days of sharing 3 things I am thankful to have in my life.

November Blessings:

1.  Kyle - he cooked dinner tonight and it was delicious.
2.  My husband Ken who drove into San Francisco and checked out the route that I need to drive tomorrow to AT&T Park.
3.  Moon - This morning it was beautiful with just a sliver of light showing against the morning sky at 6 am.
